Interactive zombie movie adventure – Deliver me to hell is an interactive video adventure on YouTube where you watch small chapters and get to make the key decisions (using hyper linking) that gives the audience a different experience with the different decisions they make. At each hyperlink they have incorporated a countdown where you will be given 10 seconds to make your decision, this creates an urgent suspense for the audience, knowing if they make the wrong decision there will be consequences. This control over the characters decisions is known as “Agency”, Agency is having the power to make choices for the character and being able to see the consequence of your actions. Agency can only work in an environment where there is significant choice which will allow the narrative to progress. Cognitive hyperlinks are used in all types of narratives to create help the reader understand the structure of the narrative. Hyperlinks are used as navigational options within a story, which creates a strong link with the different elements of the story (these segments of story are known as ‘lexia’). In a Non linear narrative the author is unsure in the direction the audience will take, the author has to create a more dense web like structure. Implicit and explicit hyper –linking help guide the reader on their way through the story. Explicit hyperlinks provide a clear direction in the form of directly mention other medians in the story. Implicit hyper-linking are more subtle and are more recurring. They indirectly give you guidance through the story. In terms of an online community there isn’t much of one, nevertheless, Youtube provides a service that allows communication in the form of comments and personal messaging.
The introduction of interactivity to this advert adds emotional attachments to the audience, for example the humorous outcomes you get from your decisions. This kind of interaction is what makes the advert memorable. The unique enjoyable experience you get from it is such a contrast to the average mundane advert that just show you the product or company and tries to sell it to you, this gives a negative association to adverts.
